So here’s everything I pretty much have planned for the summer so far. A lot of people are saying it’s too much to do…what do you think?

Piano- have a lot of practicing to do cause I’ll be a senior this fall and am applying to music schools auditions

AP English homework for next year- read 3 books and do assignments on them

AP European History homework for next year- read a few chapters in the book

AP Physics- have an entire regular physics textbook to read since I’m taking AP without taking regular physics, about 600 pages

AP Psychology- can’t get that course in my schedule next year so I got a college textbook from my teacher to read and teach myself, about 700 pages

also need to do college application essays rough drafts

go to piano camp for a week

family vacation- don’t know when yet or how long

finish researching colleges- I know where I’m applying, just basically still deciding on 1st choice and what my 2nd major and minor will be

do music resume for piano auditions

study for SAT, SAT Subject Tests, ACT, and CLEP exams

also have to get senior pictures done

If I get time to- then I have to study more music theory, work on my music composition stuff which I haven’t done much of lately, and have a large messy pile of music and school things from this year that need to go into a scrapbook somewhere organized rather than the mess they’re in now, and also have some music biographies to read about piano composers, etc., and start reading AP study review books for classes I’m taking next year (AP Spanish, AP Calc, AP Physics, AP Euro History, and AP English)

if you spread it out pretty evenely it sounds duable. I mean dont put to much pressure on your self it is the summer after all. Start with the harder taskes frist so you get those out of the way and when you get to the easier assignments it’ll be a breaze for you. Or do an easy assignment one day and a hard one the next. You could do part of an assignment one day and then practice piano. Then once a week you should take a day off for yourself to just calm down and relax. Hope it works out. Make sure not to apply to much pressure on yourself. Hope you could do it. Goodluck

Right now in English (I’m a sophomore) we’re reading Huckleberry Finn. Some of it I have trouble understanding, but once we discuss it in class it’s easier to figure out. We have this project due right after spring break and we have to present it. I really don’t like presenting. This week is the last week before spring break. We have to create a scrapbook on a powerpoint and each slide can have only 2 sentences. We have to cite everything we find (what website we found everything from), including pictures. We have to tell about things we found interesting or that stuck out to us in our topic. The topics to choose from are Mark Twain’s Biography, Slavery During the Time of the Setting of Huckleberry Finn, Hannibal, Missouri, Dialect and Local Color, Mark Twain’s Humor, Mark Twain and the Mississippi River, The Book Banning Controversy, Huck’s Lessons, and Freedom: What Does it Mean?. So far I think I’m going to choose the slavery one, but I’m not sure exactly what to look for. Just slavery during that time? I only have this week to work on it. Also, how can I feel less nervous about the presenting part? Thanks!

focus on slavery during that time, how slavery was shown/portrayed in the book, and your stance on how the book portrayed it [whether they were for or against it in your opinion, and how you feel about that].

EDIT: what helped me during HS presentations with being nervous was just realizing that most of the kids in class probably werent even paying attention to me or what i was doing…lol. theyre most likely thinking about something else and daydreaming.

Hey there… sounds like you are having a really rough time.

Seeing as your aparents may not be honouring an agreement if it was open, it may not be the best thing to talk to them straight away. Is there a school counsellor or an adult who you can share this with who might also be able to talk to your aparents? They definitely need to know how you feel but to ensure you get the support you need, they need to be approached by someone who is perhaps neutral.

I’m sorry I don’t want to say to much and it be the wrong advice… and please ignore posters telling you to be grateful to your adoptive parents.

There are some lovely adoptees that frequent this place every now and again and they may be better equipped to help you.

For an AP English project called we’re supposed ot create a scrapbook of poets and poems. We’re required to research the lives and influences of five poets. These Poets MUST come from different time periods. In our anthology, we have to provide a brief biography for each poet and an analysis one one of the poet’s poems. We’re supposed to analyze the poem after..discussing the affects and meaning of the poem.

What are some really interesting poets I could write about. I could have one modern poet, and the rest from different time periods such as the 1800’s.

Metaphysical: John Donne
Post Modern: Gary Snyder

Whether they are the best is argumentative. They did change poetry in their time period.

I am going to make a scrapbook tracing up to my greatgreatgreatgreatgreat… grandparents etc. etc. I am adding both pictures and memorobilia including biographies family trees recipes etc. I want to make it clever and fun with popouts & foldables etc. Any ideas on how to decorate it?

I made the same kind of scrapbook for my grandparents. I think that the best look would be a "Heritage" scrapbook. You can actually buy black pages instead of white to use – I added a lot of lace, materials, and ribbons for my borders or even backgrounds. I also used dried flowers and I chalked alot of the backgrounds to really give it an old look.
You can also take sandpaper and make your paper look older by roughing it up a bit.
I used calligraphy pens and made the writing very elegant – looking.
I had so much fun doing mine and I learned alot about my family. You can also get books at Hobby Lobby, Michaels, or your local craft store that are specifically for the Heritage look.

Take a picture of him and make a postcard and print something under it like "bet you wish you didn’t go there" with a particular event that he predicted that ended in disaster.
